Who did not even have leg cramps in his life? Most of the time this issue is not taken into account, but if leg cramps appear, it could often indicate food deficiencies or even serious illnesses. The leg cramps can be caused by intense physical activity, defective limb position, stress, fatigue, decoction, or diuretic administration.
When they are located just in the foot area, they can also indicate a lack of potassium, calcium or magnesium. They may also be caused by certain medications (those for regulating blood pressure, oral contraceptives, antipsychotics, and steroids). If you have frequent leg cramps, you should have a medical checkup because it may also be a symptom of atherosclerosis.
Heat, friend of leg cramps
Heat helps you get rid of the pain. Even when you feel that you have leg cramps, put an electric pillow or a bottle of hot water on the painful area and keep it for 20 minutes. The muscle relaxes and the pain disappears. If you still feel the pain, you can apply again, but after 20 minutes of rest. One solution is a shower or a warm bath where you can add magnesium salts. If you can not put into practice any of the above solutions, press the painful area with your finger for 10 seconds. After several repetitions of the procedure, the pain will diminish.
You should also supplement your diet with magnesium and potassium. Good sources would be whole bread and cereals, walnuts, beans, vegetables and fruits (especially bananas and oranges). Do not omit any dairy products that will provide you with the calcium you need. If you happen to have leg cramps when doing exercise, drink at least two glasses of water for two hours before you make the effort, and then you drink nothing. Then drink 125 ml to 250 ml of water every 15 minutes during the session. You could also use special drinks for athletes who are in the trade. Even if you do not exercise, you generally drink more water. If you suffer from leg cramps at night, supplement with vitamin E. Studies shows that it improves the circulation.
Remedies at your home
You can also use natural remedies that you prepare at home. Mix a portion of an essential oil of Gaultheria procumbulus with four parts of vegetable oil (olive or sunflower). Massage the painful area with this preparation that reduces leg cramps and stimulates blood circulation. You can use it several times a day. There is also a mixture of horseradish (50 g), sea buckthorn (50 g), cucumber leaves (25 g) and rosemary (25 g). Two leagues of this mixture are infused for 10 minutes in one liter of water. The tea-maker is also drinking throughout the day. It can be sweetened with honey.
Other solutions for leg cramps
Garlic reduces vascular spasms, helping to reduce circulatory disturbances (including varicose veins and hemorrhoids) and reduces the risk of thrombosis. It is consumed as such, at least two to three puppies a day.
Externally, you can use chili peppers. Due to its rheumatic and rubella properties, it is recommended for muscle cramps, sprains, and rheumatic problems. The pepper tincture is diluted with water and applied in the form of compresses.
Ginkgo biloba extracts are of great help in cycling deficiencies, in the deterioration of peripheral circulation, and their administration has particular effects in painful cramps that specifically affect the calf muscle. It is recommended under products containing plant extract, 120-240 mg per day.
