I have mosquito nets on my doors and windows with so high net density that even the air does not penetrate properly. I also have a special device that uses mosquito repellent tablets. But despite all my efforts, the small buzzers manage to infiltrate the room and to ruin my sleep with their annoying sounds. Not to mention their bites left on my skin after they feed with my blood.
If it’s too late for prevention, let me tell you how to naturally treat mosquito bites. These methods are safe for children too and extremely effective.
1. Essential oils
These are some of the best allies in treating mosquito bites. Apply 1-2 drops to the affected area several times a day, and the bite will disappear quickly. Specialists recommend using tea tree, lavender, mint, eucalyptus or basil essential oil.
Sometimes, ice can be the easiest and the most effective method to get rid of mosquito bites. Take the ice pack from your fridge and apply one single ice cube to the mosquito bite. This will have a double effect: it will reduce itching but also the inflammation.
A few drops applied to the mosquito bite will remarkably remove the itch and will heal the affected area faster. Any kind of vinegar is effective.
4. Baking soda
It’s a classic treatment I know from my grandmother. She was using it since she was young – a time when it was hard to keep the annoying insects away.
Just make a paste of baking soda mixed with water and apply it over the affected area.
Leave the paste on for about an hour and wash the area with warm water.
We all have it at hand. We know it’s a great remedy for pimples, but it’s effective on insect bites too. Apply a little toothpaste on the mosquito bite and you’ll reduce irritation in minutes.
I know it’s a little bizarre but it’s one of the oldest remedies for such problems. It may look odd, but when you’re in the nature you don’t have too many alternatives. Mix a little water with dust and you will get the healing mud that reduces inflammation and alleviates irritation.
